Village Pedaler was founded in 1976 when Richard Wallace converted a Schwinn-dealer hardware store in Crystal Lake into a dedicated bike shop; it has since expanded to multiple locations and consolidated at its current South Elgin headquarters just off Randall Road. The shop carries Giant, Specialized, and Aventon bikes alongside used inventory and a full range of accessories. In 2021, Jimmy Russell: a Barnett Bicycle Institute graduate: purchased the shop from long-time owner Jeff Crittenden and has maintained its multi-brand, full-service model with the VP Advantage adjustment package included on all new bikes.
