Privacy policy

cyclingcompass is a free, public directory. We collect as little personal data as we can, and we don't sell or share it. This page explains, in plain language, what that means.
What we collect
You can browse the entire directory without an account and without giving us any personal information. We do not require sign-up.
- Server logs. Like most websites, our servers may record standard request information (such as IP address, browser type, and the page requested) to keep the site secure and running. These logs are kept briefly and not used to profile you.
- Analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used in aggregate: which pages and shops are popular, and whether visitors go on to contact a shop. This sets a first-party analytics cookie and sends usage data to Google. We have not enabled Google's advertising or cross-site features, so it is not used to build an advertising profile of you. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out add-on or by blocking cookies.
- Things you send us. If you submit a shop or a correction, we use the details you provide (such as a shop name and your email) only to update the directory and to reply.
Cookies
We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Apart from what's needed for the site to function, the only cookie we set is a first-party Google Analytics cookie used to measure aggregate usage. You can block or clear it at any time without breaking the site.
Third parties
A few parts of the site rely on reputable third parties: traffic is measured with Google Analytics, photography is served from the Unsplash image CDN, and “Get directions” links open Google Maps or OpenStreetMap. Following those links, and the data Google Analytics processes, is subject to those services' own privacy policies.
Shop & business data
Listings are compiled from public sources; see our methodologyfor the full list. If you're a shop owner and want your listing corrected or removed, just contact us through the listing form or email [email protected].
Your rights & choices
You can ask what information we hold about you, request a copy, or ask us to delete it. We honor the Global Privacy Control (GPC) browser signal as a valid opt-out of any sale or sharing of personal information, though we don't sell or share it in the first place.
