About
Blackstone Bicycle Works, celebrating 20 years, is a nonprofit bike shop operated by Experimental Station (founded 2002) in the Woodlawn neighborhood on Chicago's South Side. It serves youth ages 8: 18 through in-school, after-school, and Earn-A-Bike programs teaching mechanics, job skills, and life skills, while offering community Open Shop hours (Wednesdays 4: 6 PM, Saturdays 10 AM: 12 PM) where visitors learn hands-on repair. The shop sells a limited selection including brake and shift cables, housing, chain lubricant, and helmets; it does not offer drop-off repair services. Community programs include group rides, a youth cyclocross racing team, and spring/summer/fall camps.
