About
Founded in 2003, Bike Kitchen is a 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer-run community workshop at 650 Florida St. in San Francisco dedicated to teaching bicycle repair to people of all ages and backgrounds. The shop operates on a cooperative model with day-use fees ($5) and sliding-scale memberships ($40: $100) or volunteer hours, providing access to tools, used and new parts, and advice from volunteer mechanics. Bike Kitchen explicitly welcomes women, trans, genderqueer, and femme riders who have faced gender bias, homophobia, or transphobia, and supports broader community non-profit institutions alongside its core mission of repair education and re-use.
