Now Bikes opened as the Cross Country Ski Chalet in November 1972 and added Gitane bicycles in spring 1973. Paul Himmelman took over in 1976 at age 20, and Bob Sumada joined in 1978; the pair renamed it Now Sports in 1978 to better answer the phone. The shop operated seven locations at its peak, hosting the annual "World's Largest Bikes Sale" at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds for 20 years starting in 1981, before consolidating to two stores over 6,000 square feet each in Arden Hills and St. Paul. Now carries Cannondale, Pinarello, Salsa, Cervelo, Santa Cruz, 45NRTH, Benno, Gazelle, Giant, Juliana, Liv, Pivot, Surly, and Teravail, with in-house bike fitting, custom bike configuration, and repair services.
