Founded in 1971 as Mr. Handlebars, the shop was purchased by current owner Peter DePagter in 1979 and remains at 685 Englewood Ave in Buffalo. Handlebars carries Electra, Trek, Shimano, Surly (the only stocking dealer in western New York), State Bicycle, and Italian frames including Dario Pegoretti and Officina Battaglin. The shop offers custom wheel building, professional bike fitting (including retrofit), and general mechanical service for all makes and models; staff are active local and regional competitors who use the products daily.
