Founded in 1979 by Forrest Ridgway in a Des Moines basement, Bike World has grown to three locations (Urbandale, Ames, West Des Moines) totaling nearly 50,000 square feet. The shop carries Trek, Cannondale, Giant, Liv, Surly, Benno, Gazelle, Electra, 45NRTH, Teravail, and component brands Shimano and SRAM. Bike World operates a ride support van most weekends April: August, serves as an official RAGBRAI shop, supports local bike clubs and charity rides, and partners with Variety: the Children's Charity of Iowa on the Mobility Program. Ten long-tenured employees bring over 250 combined years of experience.
