About
Founded in 1972 as Wheeler Dealers by Fred Chestnut and Dean Hovey, The Bicycle Outfitter moved to its current Fremont Avenue location in Los Altos in 1978 under new ownership by Dick and Marilyn Powell. Since 2004, it has been owned by Bud and Neal Hoffacker, whose family has operated Palo Alto Bicycles for over 87 years. The shop carries Trek, Specialized, Surly, 45nrth, Teravail, Electra, and Shimano/SRAM components, and offers a basic tune ($175), pro tune ($350), or complete overhaul ($450) with full bike wash and safety inspection, plus free professional bike fitting with every bike purchase.
