About
Founded April 30, 1988, as an all-volunteer nonprofit by eight cycling advocates from across Wisconsin, the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin (now Wisconsin Bike Fed) operates as a statewide advocacy and education organization rather than a retail bike shop. It does not carry bike brands or sell bicycles. Instead, it focuses on legislative advocacy (securing the 3-foot passing law and equal rights for cyclists), community partnerships on trail and street infrastructure, mobile bike repair in underserved Madison and Milwaukee neighborhoods, bike rodeo training, and signature events including Ride Across Wisconsin (RAW) and Santa Cycle Rampage. The organization employs full- and part-time staff, seasonal instructors (including League Cycling Instructors), and a board of directors.
