Question 1

Can UW students use the ASUW Bike Shop's tools and workspace without paying for labor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Any UW student, staff, or faculty member can use the shop space and tools for free on a do-it-yourself basis. Part costs apply if materials are needed, and users are expected to follow shop safety rules and clean up after themselves.

Question 2

Does the shop require appointments for repairs, or is it first-come, first-served?

Accepted Answer

The shop operates on a first-come, first-served basis with no appointments necessary. When a customer arrives, a mechanic performs an initial diagnosis, provides a written quote on a work order form, and calls when the service is complete.

Question 3

What payment methods does the ASUW Bike Shop accept?

Accepted Answer

The shop accepts all major credit and debit cards and mobile pay services. It does not accept cash, checks, or Husky Cards.

Question 4

Can the shop service electric bikes?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the shop services e-bikes and applies a $10 surcharge for certain services due to their size, weight, and complexity. However, the shop cannot work on DIY conversion e-bikes or gasoline-powered bikes.

Question 5

What is the shop's history and mission?

Accepted Answer

The ASUW Bike Shop was founded in 1974 by UW students with two core goals: providing affordable bike services and creating a safe space to learn about and work on bicycles. The shop's mission is to increase access to biking and empower the UW community through hands-on bike education and quality service.

Question 6

Does the shop sell complete bikes or accept trade-ins?

Accepted Answer

No. The shop does not sell whole bikes or accept trade-ins; it focuses exclusively on repair and maintenance services.
