Zach Kaplan Cycles, founded in 1995, is a one-person recumbent specialist in Alameda serving the San Francisco Bay Area and mail order. The shop carries recumbent bicycles from AZUB, Bacchetta, HP Velotechnik, and Lightning; recumbent tricycles from AZUB, Catrike, HP Velotechnik, Inspired Cycle Engineering, and Carbontrike; and components including Shimano, SRAM, Rohloff, Magura, Ortlieb, Arkel, and specialized lighting from Busch + Müller, Supernova, and others. Owner Zach Kaplan has ridden recumbents as primary transportation since 1992, completed over 100 double centuries and the Paris-Brest-Paris 1200 km brevet, and operates by appointment only to provide one-on-one consultations, test rides, and fitting at $25/hour (credited toward purchases).
