Upshift Workshop is a woman-owned bicycle repair and education shop in Washington, DC, founded by Leah Fantle, a professional bicycle technician certified through United Bicycle Institute (2018) and League Certified Cycling Instructor (2018). The shop arose from repeated requests for hands-on mechanics classes where people could work on their own bikes, and offers skilled repairs, parts, tools, city biking accessories, and group clinics in bike maintenance, mechanics, and riding skills. Fantle has taught hundreds of group and one-on-one mechanics lessons since 2015 in the DC bicycle industry, with focus on empowering cyclists: particularly women, trans, and nonbinary riders: to become more comfortable maintaining their own bikes for commuting, touring, and general riding.
