The Bike Project of Urbana-Champaign is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 2006 in downtown Urbana, expanding in 2010 with the Campus Bicycle Center at the University of Illinois. The organization operates two locations where members use tools and repair stands to maintain and build their own bikes, supported by volunteers and staff who provide guidance but do not perform repairs for customers. The shop accepts donated bicycles and parts, sells refurbished bikes, and teaches bicycle maintenance through hands-on classes and a learning-required workshop environment.
