Founded in 1935 by Charles Durst as a used-bike shop, Durst Cycle & Fitness has operated continuously in the Champaign-Urbana area for nearly 90 years, supplying newspaper carriers since 1939. The shop operates two locations (1201 S. Mattis Ave in Champaign and 1112 W. University Ave in Urbana) and carries Aventon, Denago, Electra, Giant, and Specialized bikes alongside apparel, accessories, and components. Beyond bicycles, the shop has serviced fitness equipment since the 1960s, employing factory-trained technicians for home and commercial equipment repair, and maintains a dedicated electric toy train retail space at the Urbana location.
