Founded in 1998 as a weekend warehouse operation in San Francisco, Sports Basement has grown to 15 California locations with in-house ski and bike shops. The Sunnyvale location carries Cannondale, Felt, Surly, Breezer, Aventon, and components from Shimano and SRAM, alongside adventure brands 45nrth and Teravail. The chain hosts over 5,000 community events annually and redistributes 10% of earnings through its Basementeers program to local schools and nonprofits; it also offers e-bike rebates for Bay Area residents and operates guided backpacking trips to Yosemite and the Grand Canyon.
