Question 1

What is the Earn-a-Bike program at RevolveKCK?

Accepted Answer

The Earn-a-Bike program is RevolveKCK's core mission offering that allows participants to earn a low-cost bicycle through the shop's refurbishment and redistribution model. Over 1500 participants have successfully completed the program, which supports the shop's goal of providing reliable transportation to under-served communities in the Greater Kansas City Region.

Question 2

Does RevolveKCK accept bike donations, and what is the process?

Accepted Answer

RevolveKCK accepts donations of bicycles and accessories during regular business hours at both locations. Bikes in good working condition are accepted free of charge; bikes needing repair incur a $5 fee for adult bikes ($2 for kids' bikes 24" and smaller); and bikes beyond repair cost $5 regardless of size. All donors receive a charitable donation receipt. The shop does not accept helmet or clothing donations.

Question 3

What types of bikes does RevolveKCK have available for sale?

Accepted Answer

RevolveKCK sells used bicycles, refurbished through its mission program, along with retro, classic, and vintage bikes. The shop also carries bicycle accessories and clothing to support its community mission.

Question 4

Is RevolveKCK a nonprofit organization?

Accepted Answer

Yes, RevolveKCK is a 501(c)3 nonprofit community bike shop dedicated to providing reliable bicycles for transportation and recreation to under-served communities in the Greater Kansas City Region.

Question 5

How does RevolveKCK handle bicycles that cannot be repaired?

Accepted Answer

Bikes deemed beyond repair are processed and taken to a metal recycler. Although RevolveKCK receives minimal revenue (approximately $0.06 per pound) from recycling, the shop charges a $5 donation fee per bike to help offset the significant labor, rent, fuel, and insurance costs associated with processing and recycling each bicycle.
