Proteus Bicycles has operated in College Park for over 40 years, beginning in the 1970s: 80s as a custom frame builder before shifting to community-focused retail under Jill DiMauro in the 2000s. Current owners Laurie Lemieux and Ben Bassett (since 2012) have expanded local advocacy and group riding; the shop moved to a larger location on Rhode Island Avenue in 2018. It carries Specialized, Cannondale, Jamis, and Kona road, gravel, mountain, commuter, and touring bikes, plus accessories and parts. Services include repair, professional bike fitting in a dedicated Pro-Fit studio, and professional builds.
