Proteus Bicycles has operated in College Park for over 40 years, evolving from a custom-frame shop in the 1970s: 80s to a community-focused dealer under current ownership (Laurie Lemieux and Ben Bassett, since 2012). Located at 9827 Rhode Island Avenue since December 2018, it stocks Specialized, Cannondale, Jamis, and Kona across road, gravel, mountain, commuter, and touring categories. The shop offers bike fitting, professional builds, and year-round repair; it also hosts the Proteus Velo Club (Saturday road rides, Sunday mountain rides) and operates an in-house coffee bar (Proteus Brews).
