About
Proteus Bicycles has been a College Park institution for over 40 years, evolving from a custom-frame builder in the 1970s: 80s to a community-focused shop under current ownership (Laurie Lemieux and Ben Bassett, since 2012). The shop stocks Specialized, Cannondale, Jamis, and Kona across road, gravel, cyclocross, touring, mountain, commuter, and kids categories, with a full repair facility, professional bike fitting studio (Proteus Pro-Fit), and an in-house coffee bar (Proteus Brews). Located on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park near the Greenbelt Metro, it hosts the Proteus Velo Club with regular Saturday road rides (30 miles, 14: 18 mph, or 20 miles at 11: 12 mph) and Sunday mountain bike rides, plus social meetups, races, and excursions.
