Question 1

What is Prairie Bike's history and how did it start?

Accepted Answer

Prairie Bike LLC was founded in 2020 as a mobile bike repair business after the owner seized the opportunity when Continental Cyclery, a 37-year fixture in south-central Kansas, closed. The shop operated out of a modified Chevy Trailblazer with custom drawers, making house calls to repair bikes on-site, before establishing a physical location in Wichita in late 2023.

Question 2

Does Prairie Bike accept all types of bicycles for repair?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The shop repairs all bikes regardless of purchase price or type, with the owner committed to providing the same thorough quality repair whether a bike cost $100 or $10,000. The shop's philosophy is that no cyclist should be turned away.

Question 3

What should customers know about current operations at Prairie Bike?

Accepted Answer

As of May 29th, Prairie Bike will no longer be open for business. The shop is finishing remaining work for existing clients with limited availability for new repairs, which will be reserved for former customers. Customers with bikes in the shop should allow 2–3 business days for communication and be patient as quality standards remain unchanged.

Question 4

Did Prairie Bike experience any notable challenges in its early years?

Accepted Answer

Yes. In 2022, the shop's original mobile repair vehicle was hit by a tornado, forcing operations to pause while the owner searched for a replacement vehicle. The business resumed mobile service in 2023 using a Tacoma before transitioning to a physical storefront.
