Proteus Bicycles has operated in College Park for over 40 years, beginning in the 1970s: 80s as a custom frame builder for racers before shifting toward community focus under successive ownership. The shop carries Specialized, Cannondale, Jamis, and Kona road, gravel, mountain, touring, and commuter bikes, with a full service repair facility offering professional fitting and custom builds. Proteus hosts the Velo Club with regular Saturday road rides (30 and 20 miles) and Sunday mountain bike outings, plus social meetups and organized excursions to races and events. Located on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park, near the Greenbelt Metro, it serves cyclists of all ages and abilities: from kids to racers: with year-round commuting support.
