Founded in 2005 by Jim Fisher, a Mackinac Island year-round resident and competitive cross-country mountain bike racer, Mackinac Wheels operates two locations (the flagship shop and Mackinac Bike Barn, opened 2012) as the only dedicated bike sales and repair operation on the island. The shop carries Giant, Pedego, and Surly, and serves island residents and visitors with bike rentals, sales of new and pre-owned bikes, full-service repairs, and accessories. Staff are entirely year-round island residents, and the shop emphasizes fair pricing and quality rental inventory including tag-a-longs, trailers, and child sizes.
