Fairmount Bicycles opened in June 2010 in Philadelphia's Fairmount neighborhood, founded by Shelly after years of bike commuting and co-running a used-bike workshop with a friend. The shop sells new and used bikes, accessories, and rents comfort, road, and hardtail mountain bikes; it also operates the Philly Bike Tour Co., which offers guided tours including the Classic City Tour, mural tours in collaboration with Mural Arts, and beer-history tours. Beyond retail, Fairmount hosts repair classes and shop rides, and explicitly values paid time off, living wages, and community partnership, positioning itself against bike-shop snobbery.
