What is the history of Beaver Sports?

Beaver Sports was founded in 1972 by Jim Whisenhant, who began by selling canoes out of his garage in Fairbanks. The shop was later run by Jim's sons Greg and Chris before being purchased by local owners Nick and Kristen Janssen in 2025. The business has been part of Fairbanks' outdoor community for over 50 years.

Yes. Fat bike day rentals (return same day) are $70, with overnight and additional days at $60 per day. Fat bike rentals require a $200 deposit. Rental bikes come equipped with pogies and tail lights. All rentals require a major credit card and are subject to availability.

Items must be in new condition with tags and a receipt, and returns are accepted within 30 days for a refund. The shop reserves the right to charge a restocking fee. Returns are not accepted on climbing gear, bikes, sunglasses, swimsuits, underwear, electronic items, gift cards, or clearance/sale items.

Yes. Two-person and three-person tent rentals are available at $30/$40 per day or $80/$105 for overnight rates. Reservations for camping equipment can be made up to 30 days in advance with a 20% deposit. Cancellations forfeit the deposit unless made more than 14 days before the reservation start date.
