Wheelhouse Detroit was founded in 2008 by Kelli Kavanaugh and Karen Gage to support Detroit's cycling renaissance alongside the riverfront revitalization. The shop carries Giant and Kona bikes and offers retail, repairs (tune-ups, wheel truing, flat fixes), bike rentals (cruisers, BMX, tricycles, with tag-a-longs and trailers for families), and guided historical tours exploring neighborhoods like Eastern Market, Corktown, Poletown, and architecture. In 2015, Kavanaugh took sole ownership and expanded the tour program while maintaining the original community-focused mission.
