The Bicycle Kitchen is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in Los Angeles operated entirely by volunteers, offering hands-on bike repair and maintenance education in a tool-filled workspace. Rather than selling bikes or performing repairs for customers, the organization teaches people to work on their own bicycles: from basic flat-tire repair to full bike builds from donated parts: with suggested donations of $8 per hour and no one turned away for lack of funds. It runs a six-week Youth Build-a-Bike program for ages 12: 18 and occasional repair workshops, welcoming anyone regardless of experience or bike type.
