Founded in 1972 by rocket scientist Bruce Ryder as The Bicycle Center, the shop relocated multiple times before adopting the Ryder Bikes name in 1989 and expanding to over 5,000 square feet in Bradenton. In 2007, Paul and Karen Tobio acquired the business; Paul holds Retul fitting and USA Cycling Coaches certifications. The shop carries bikes, recumbents, tandems, BMX, and adult trikes, with services including bike fitting, components, and trade-ins. A second Bradenton location on University Parkway (4,500 sq ft) opened in 2013; the downtown Sarasota location closed in 2015.
