Founded in 1909 as a bicycle shop in Freeport, Illinois, Kegel's moved to Rockford in 1923 and has been operating at its Charles Street location since 1975. The shop carries Specialized, Fuji, Santa Cruz, Salsa, Surly, 45nrth, Aventon, Denago, Juliana, and Teravail alongside BMX bikes from major brands, and stocks over 300 bikes in the showroom. Owner Robb Sinks, who has run the shop since 1997, and his staff offer general repairs, tune-ups, and test rides; the shop also pioneered early Trek distribution and played a role in building Rockford's first midwest BMX track at Searles Park in the 1970s.
