Gradient is a mobile bike workshop that brings service directly to customers' homes throughout South Jersey and the Greater Philadelphia region. The shop also offers pickup/dropoff service and a home-shop location for customer dropoff, with varying turnaround times depending on appointment type.

Question 2

What is the background of Gradient Bike Shop's owner and mechanic?

Accepted Answer

Owner and mechanic Andreas Gabrielsen spent 10 years as a mechanical engineer before transitioning full-time to bikes. He previously operated as Collingswood Cycle Repair, serving hundreds of customers in South Jersey over many years before establishing Gradient in June 2024.

Question 3

What tuneup levels does Gradient offer and what do they include?

Accepted Answer

Gradient offers three tuneup levels: Level 1 (Basic) at $90–$130 for safety checks and minor adjustments; Level 2 (Performance) at $200 for bikes showing wear or out of adjustment, including wheel truing and drivetrain deep cleaning; and Level 3 (Overhaul) at variable pricing for heavily used or neglected bikes, including full bearing service and cable replacement. E-bikes incur an additional $50 fee for any tuneup.

Question 4

How does the booking and cost-estimate process work at Gradient?

Accepted Answer

Customers book through the shop's calendar and provide contact information and a summary of bike needs. The shop responds within 24 hours and may request photos or a detailed questionnaire. A formal cost estimate is provided after the initial booking but before the appointment, and the shop will notify customers immediately if adjustments are needed after in-person inspection. Payment is accepted in cash or card, with digital invoices and text/email receipts provided.

Question 5

What is the minimum labor charge and does transit to a home service location cost extra?

Accepted Answer

The minimum labor charge for any job is $80. Transit to Zone-A neighborhoods is included in the service cost, but customers outside Zone-A will incur transit surcharges for onsite service or pickup/dropoff appointments.
