Founded in 2012, Gearin' Up Bicycles is a community bike shop and repair-education hub in the Eckington neighborhood of Washington, DC, operating in partnership with the Washington Area Bicyclist Association since 2023. The shop focuses on bicycle-mechanic training for youth from under-served communities while offering affordable used bicycles and repair services. A flagship program, Earn-A-Bike, teaches high school students (ages 14: 18) essential maintenance and repair skills over 5: 7 classes, culminating in a bike they build and take home with lights, lock, and helmet.
